Tent City

Matthew 25:35 – I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me a drink; I was a stranger and you received me in your homes, naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me, in prison and you visited me. (GNB)

In Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the homeless huddle together in Tent City, a community located on Home Depot property, to keep warm this winter. Tents and wooden structures provide a measure of safety and shelter. Plans are being proposed for low-cost housing to be built in Tent City. This innovative project will contain modular housing designed so that a room can be added at a time as funds become available.

We are reminded of Jesus when we look at the issue of homelessness. Jesus was homeless during his ministry. If Jesus were alive today we could find him amongst the homeless and the refugees. Would we recognize him?

Prayer: Lord God, teach us to see Jesus in the face of the homeless and refugees. Help us to work through churches and community groups to serve them. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
