1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (NIV)
Recently I have started to take my son ice-skating. I used to skate when I was younger, so it is nice to get back out on the ice. It is also fun teaching my son how to skate. After we finish ice-skating, we will sometimes sit around to watch the Zamboni run on the ice. My son enjoys seeing it motor around.
After we had finished skating, one could see marks all over the surface. The ice was no longer smooth. The Zamboni would run over the ice and smooth out all the marks that were made by us, the skaters. The ice was then nice and smooth for the next session.
As I sat and watched the Zamboni motor around the rink, I started to think of Christ. We come before God with the marks of sin all over us, but through Christ's work on the cross those marks are removed, so that we are righteous in the sight of God. Since we are made righteous, our lives should reflect this. This is not an empty promise but one that has been made and kept by God.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are a loving, merciful and compassionate God. We come before you with the marks of sin in our lives. We give thanks that we are forgiven through the blood of your Son Jesus. In Jesus' name. Amen.
