Riches And Honour And Life

Thursday, February 1, 2001

Have you ever dreamed of finding a gold mine or an oil well on your property? Or have you looked at a rainbow and wished that the story were true about a pot of gold being found at the end of every rainbow?

When I was much younger, I often wished for earthly riches. I don't think as much now about that type of riches as I once did, because I don't have to. I am rich. I have discovered a very real mine filled with rare jewels and huge gold nuggets, and it all belongs to me. Do you know what makes me so very happy about all of this? I have found that God adds no sorrow to this treasure, for I find these riches between the covers of His Word, the Bible. I just have to dig for them.

A few weeks ago, my pastor mentioned a verse from Proverbs that captured my attention. After service, I asked him where the verse was located. Since that night, I have studied it, memorized it, and taken it to heart. This one verse holds a treasure that the whole world is seeking after. All persons who are born again can seek the treasure that comes through humility and the fear of the Lord. If you haven't seen this precious truth yet, read the following verse with me and rejoice.

Proverbs 22:4 – By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life. (KJV)

We honour God when we praise Him! "Praise ye the Lord," His word tells us. We all need to praise Him more every day. He certainly deserves our praise, for He has richly blessed us!

Prayer: Dear Father, help us to become more diligent in prayerfully reading through your Word this year. Help us to realize Your Word is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, and that it is filled with great riches for all your children. Forgive us when we neglect reading it as we should. Amen.
