Hebrews 4:13 – Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. (NIV)

The last house we lived in had every right-of-way you could think of. Out on the front lawn was a large box with the electrical transformer in it. It was green with large yellow numbers stencilled on it for identification. Just over the sidewalk from this was the green telephone box, and next to that was the cable system's box, painted a lighter colour of green.

That was the front yard. The back had a stream that continually eroded the earth, every time a storm broke loose.

Then the gas company came along and constructed a pipeline across the back of the property. After that, the city decided to build a fence to keep children from getting close to the creek when it flooded. In doing so the city didn't notify the gas company. They drilled with an auger to put in a fence post, and struck the gas line.

Perhaps you can imagine the way I felt when the man from the city came to me to use the phone to call the gas company to shut off the gas before everything blew up. I gave him the phone, got out, and left him with the house!

We live with all these so-called "rights-of-way" — and life becomes like an obstacle course. What is the right way to live?

When it comes to our walk with the Lord, we don't have to have all these "rights-of-way". The only right way is to seek God through Christ.

We need to avoid being like the lot our house stood on, with all the rights-of-way. They were not only an eyesore, but the most deadly was hidden below the ground.

Sin is sometimes hidden deep within us. It needs to be sought out and dealt with before it causes trouble, like the gas line. It can destroy us from within. Sin can tear us apart, if we let it. Taking it to the Lord through the blood of Christ is the only way — the right way — for us to live.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for leading us to the right way to live through Your Son Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for all our sin. May we be aware that nothing is hidden from You, and that we need only to come to You and say, "Forgive me, Lord Jesus," and it will be done. Amen.
