To The Dump, To The Dump

Sunday, September 3, 2000

1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (NIV)

Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (NIV)

We've been making a lot of trips to the local dump lately. We're replacing our old deck. The wood is really rotten. As soon as the trailer is full, we drive to the dump and get rid of it. Really this is not unlike ourselves with our sinful lives! We need to dump our sins and start anew, just like we're replacing the rotten wood on our deck with brand new wood. If we don't clean house from time to time, our sins can cause us to be rotten inside.

Because we are all sinners, we need a Saviour to deliver us from our sins. Jesus came into the world to save sinners. He lived a perfect life and died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins — your sins and my sins. As long as we live, it is never too late to turn from our sins. God wants us to live holy and obedient lives. Sin separates us from God. We can't let our sins prevent us from having a relationship with God who is holy and perfect. Let's dump the sin out of our lives and be, as the words of today's music say:

White as snow, white as snow,
Though my sins were as scarlet,
Lord, I know, Lord, I know,
    That I'm clean and forgiven,
By the power of Your blood,
By the wonder of Your love.
    Through faith in You
I know that I can be
    White as snow.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You that we can come to You, confess our sins and be forgiven. We pray for strength to overcome our sins, to make the right choices and to put our faith in You alone. We praise You for Your great faithfulness to us even though we don't deserve it. Amen.
