Psalm 25:5 – Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Saviour, and my hope is in you all day long. (NIV)
The editor of the Daily sent out a message to all writers just to point out what makes a good devotional.
I read it and I know exactly what he is saying: "Keep it simple." For instance, people who work only have a certain time frame in which to read a devotional. "Get to the point, try to make it personal, and tie it in to the scripture, in about 200-300 words! Begin with a scripture and close in prayer. Don't be preachy."
I thought, "All this sounds easy, and the guidelines tend to keep us on track."
We all need guidelines for daily living. It would be wonderful if we would begin each day by reading a piece of scripture, dwell on the things we must do for this day and how we will do them according to scripture, and then ponder how we will show others by our daily walk with the Lord Jesus Christ that we are Christians. We don't have to be preachy. People will recognize we are different, and question us, if we let Christ shine through us.
We all have the opportunity to encourage one another in Christian living. May God inspire us to do so. The Daily readers encourage me. The message today for all of us is to live the Christian life. Let us embrace guidelines for Christian living. Let us appreciate the most important thing in our life, and most of all try to do the will of God.
Prayer: Lord, guide us to live our daily lives in accordance with your will. Help us to form these guidelines and to hold fast to them. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
