Waiting Patiently

Listen while you read: "Lord Dismiss Us With Your Blessing"1 (Lyrics)

Psalm 37:7 – Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him. (NKJV)

Isaiah 40:31 – But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. (NKJV)

One afternoon, I was standing in a rather long line-up at the checkout. Ahead of me was a young mother with her toddler. The toddler was getting quite impatient, and kept trying to push the cart ahead.

Isn't this exactly what we do, at times, with God? We try to push ahead of His plan for our lives. We get impatient and try to do things in our own strength, instead of waiting for God's perfect timing.

God knows everything about us. He knows exactly what we need and when we need it. Are we waiting on God or pushing ahead?

The next time we find ourselves pushing ahead, let's remember the words of today's music:

In His time, in His time
He makes all things beautiful in His time.
Lord, please show me every day
As You're teaching me Your way
That You do just what You say
    In Your time.
      – Diane Ball

Prayer: Father, forgive us. All too often we are too busy. Slow us down, Lord, and grant us patience to wait on You. Help us to keep trusting in You and live one day at a time. Amen.
