Listen while you read: "As With Gladness Men Of Old"1 (Lyrics) |
Psalm 36:7-8 – How precious, O God, is your constant love! We find protection under the shadow of your wings. We feast on the abundant food you provide; you let us drink from the river of your goodness. (GNB)
I watched a family of grackles in my yard this morning. There was a mother, a father and four babies. The fledglings were almost full-grown, being the same size as the parents, but lacking the iridescent colouring of the adults.
As I watched the parents search for tidbits in the grass, they were followed constantly by the fledglings, squawking noisily. The adult would find a morsel of food, then turn to the baby bird and feed it. I am sure the babies were capable of finding their own food, but the parents never failed to provide for the baby. As long as the baby was there, demanding food, the mother or father would feed it.
Sometimes I think we must be like the baby grackles. Surely God must get tired of our demands. One would think he would turn away, and let us fend for ourselves. But every time we ask, He is there for us. No matter how often or how many times we ask the same thing, He never tires of us.
Prayer: Loving Father, You are with us always. You protect us, feed us and love us. We have only to ask, and You are there for us. For this, we thank You. Amen.
