Trust God's Word

Mark 9:23 – Jesus said unto him, "If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth." (KJV)

James 1:5-8 – If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. (NIV)

Early in May, we were expecting my sister and her husband to visit us. We had corresponded about the visit several times. She had told us their flight number and when they would be arriving. But Tuesday afternoon just before leaving for the airport, I checked my e-mail and found a short note from them saying they had decided to come on Wednesday instead. The note had been sent just an hour previously and it also said, "Have a good visit with Joyce. See you tomorrow." But my sister Joyce was not with us at that time. She had already visited us the previous week, and Diane knew that.

It seemed strange that Diane would suddenly change the date of their arrival without phoning us about it. How did she know whether I would look at my e-mail before going to the airport?

We decided that in spite of the note, we should drive to the airport to meet Diane and Jay. They were on the flight as expected, and they couldn't understand who had sent that note. They had not sent it. I was glad we had trusted their original letter.

This reminded me that God's promises are totally reliable. When He confirms something to us in His word, we can completely trust that word. God does not change His mind. If circumstances seem to be telling us something different, it is probably Satan trying to deceive us.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to always trust your word and believe your promises. Help us not to waver when Satan tries to deceive us and discourage us. Amen.
