For Someone Else To See

2 Peter 1:3 – According to his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue. (KJV)
1 Peter 5:3 – Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. (KJV)

A while ago I wrote a devotional about my love of the beauty and intricacy of feathers, my delight in sometimes finding them in my daily walk and bringing them home for my "collection", and my feeling of how special such a find was for me, since no one else in my family shares my affection for feathers. Several readers very graciously offered to send me a few unique feathers.

Recently however, my "feather-finding" has taken a new turn. I realized there may be others for whom finding a feather is also something special and that if I were to pick up the feather and bring it home for only me to enjoy, the feather's beauty and intricacy would be stifled. No other walker would experience the joy of "finding a feather" in their daily walk. So I now leave each feather for someone else to see, that they too may experience the joy in "finding a feather".

What we as Christians do with our faith, our belief system, our love of God is so similar to the outcome of finding a feather. If, as we experience the wondrous workings of God in our lives, we keep it to ourselves, the fullness of all that He is is stifled. If, on the other hand, we share what He has done and does do for us, we "leave" His message for others to experience the joy and wonders of His word.

Prayer: Our heavenly Father, teach us to share the love that is ours to give, as it is given to us by You. In Your name we pray. Amen.
