Upon Eagles' Wings, And Growing Stronger

Isaiah 40:28-31 – Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. If It Were Not So

If it were not for the

painful,
puzzling,
and troublesome things

so commanding,
comforting,
and sweet to the soul,

to simply rest in His grace
mean more than all the world to me.

If it were not so

He would not have allowed
those things so distressful,

"My grace is sufficient for you."

Last night I asked my friend a question that I figured did not have an answer: "Can depression be overcome for good?" As I prepared for bed a couple of hours later, the Lord whispered the answer, "My grace is sufficient for you." Now, today, His word is refreshing my soul again and the eagles' wings are growing stronger. When depression strikes, and it often does, I can't see clearly and begin to "beat myself up for things I really can't control." I begin thinking that if my faith were the right kind, or size, I wouldn't be depressed, which is a foolish thought, because all the faith anyone needs to move mountains is as large as a mustard seed. The size of the faith isn't what matters; it is upon whom we place our faith that counts. If my faith is in myself and what I can do, I will fail, always. Faith placed upon the Lord Jesus Christ, and what He can do, works — always.

I want to learn how to be thankful for the hard places, as well as the joyful ones I find myself in, because without pain my heart remains untouched or becomes hardened. Although I do not like pain, I don't want a stony heart either.

Our God is a wonderful Shepherd. He knows His sheep and provides what is needful for spiritual growth and health. I am thankful for that wonderful, reassuring truth.

Prayer: Father, help us remember that You are in control of our circumstances and that we need to wait on You, resting in the knowledge that You love us and that You know what You are doing. Help us to cease fretting, while learning to wait and trust You. Amen.
