Matthew 6:22 – The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. (NIV)
When my son was born, he had a lazy eye. As he got older, the eye got worse, because he was not using the eye. When we took him to the doctor we were told that if nothing were done he would eventually lose sight in that eye. So one thing we had to do was block his good eye, so he was forced to use the bad one. Next, we had to have his eye operated on. He went through three operations to straighten out his eye. Now he is four, and his eye is doing pretty well. It is very straight and he is using it the way he should.
Thinking about my son's vision, I started to think about about my spiritual vision. I started to ask, "Am I seeing clearly what God wants of me? Or am I letting the world cloud my vision?" I examined my life and found I was letting things like materialism come before God. In doing this I was blocking my spiritual vision and getting lazy. I would not read the word of God or fellowship with other believers. If my focus is not on God, then my relationship with God is hindered. My wife and I meditated and prayed a long time on what God wanted of us and we got our answer. Since focusing on God, my life has been blessed with doing his will. My spiritual vision is clearer and keeps getting clearer each day.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, our focus has not always been on you. We have let self-desires and self-interest cloud our vision. May our vision be cleared and may our focus remain only on you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
