Deep Cleansing

November 10, 1999

1 John 1:7 – But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. (KJV)
Psalm 51:2 – Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. (KJV)

Recently we had a demonstration of a vacuum cleaning system in our home. Normally we don't do this, but our vacuum has been in need of replacing for a long while. The sales pitch was very good. The salesman stressed how deeply and thoroughly this system could cleanse, leaving barely a trace of dirt. He stated that the deep-down dirt was just lifted right out of the carpet. Other features highlighted were the airflow of this system, and its durability: we would never need to buy another vacuum in our lifetime. We were impressed, and, as this new vacuum came with a lifetime guarantee, we bought it.

Later on in the evening, I started thinking about how deep a cleansing Christ did for us when he died on the cross at Calvary. When we turn to him and walk in his light, we are free from our sins and are lifted up every day. The airflow from the Holy Spirit can do wonders for our soul.

As the vacuum only works when it is plugged in, so we must be plugged in to Jesus. When we receive his cleansing of our soul, we will never need any other. He comes with a lifetime guarantee clear through to eternity.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to remember that, when we walk in your light and turn to you for forgiveness, we will be deeply cleansed from our sin (dirt), right in the depths of our heart. May we all follow the narrow pathway, which leads to that lifetime guarantee. Give us all the courage to turn to you and claim what you did on the cross for us; then we will be truly lifted up. I thank you and praise you that your great love has lifted me up. Amen.
