Our Filling Station

Ephesians 3:14-19 – For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge — that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Every Sunday when we go into God's house, "the church", we go to get topped up. I think of it as our filling station. A car needs gas to propel it along the road, just as we need a spiritual filling, to see us through each day, until we come again for another top-up. I hate to admit it, but sometimes I am almost running on empty.

Christian families gather together to encourage one another, recognizing our need for each other. We come for prayer and support; to hear the word preached; to study the word so that it is more meaningful to us; to sing praises to our Lord; to come to Him in humility and holiness, into His sanctuary. This is where we receive that spiritual filling.

We need that support of our fellow Christians for our own encouragement, which can be found only in the fibre that "binds us together" — in the church, which has Jesus Christ as its head. We offer to the church our unique gifts and strengths.

As Christians we can be strengthened and encouraged as we come as His church together to be filled.

Hebrews 10:25 – Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another. (NIV)

Prayer: Holy and merciful God, never let us believe that we can live our lives together in You without the support of each other. For it is Your church that You have established for us to come together, into Your presence, to praise and worship You. Let us come and be filled with Your Holy Spirit. Amen.
