2 Timothy 3:16-17 – All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (NIV)
I was reading about a lady who loves books, especially old ones. One day she found a small Bible which she bought for very little money. She had a special place for this Bible. She told how much she wished her old books could talk and tell the story of where they had been.
How interesting, I thought. It made me aware of my own Bible and what would happen if it ended up at a sale. So I sat down and wrote about how and where I received my Bible, and all the places we had been together: to Scotland, to the Holy Land, to the hospital and even into the jail. I recorded that it comes to church every Sunday and that I read it as we pause for a short Bible study and prayer session before the formal service begins. When I finished my story, I printed it and stapled to one of the pages.
My Bible really didn't need this story. It has a story of its own. It is filled from cover to cover with the word of God. There are stories and helps there for all of us. God has a plan, and it includes each of us. Reading the Bible helps us to understand and see that plan unfold. The Bible provides us with words of wisdom, comforting thoughts and help in times of trouble. It has been preserved and handed down through the ages for us.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for giving us Your word in the Bible. Help us through the Holy Spirit to know your will, and always to take the time to listen. Help us to know the Bible better. Amen.
