The Secret Of Answered Prayer

James 1:6,7,8 – But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. (KJV)

We live on the north shore of Lake Erie and for many summers enjoyed boating and the many water sports available to us. Growing up along this large body of water, one learns water safety early and also how to detect when a change of weather can make this shallow lake very dangerous. On a hot summer's day, this cool lake, with a surface as smooth as a piece of glass, can quickly become huge waves tossing a boat or a swimmer, making control impossible. About a quarter of a mile from shore, there is a large breakwall or breakwater. Its poured concrete base and 10-12 foot rocks protect the shore from storms. It was also not unusual to see boaters in a sudden storm race for the breakwall and quickly tie up for security. The breakwall never moves. Although huge waves can crash over it and swirl around its sides, it never moves. Those of us who have sought refuge there know it will never move. We hold securely, knowing that this storm will pass and we will be protected by the rock.

In today's scripture, we're told that faith is the secret to answered prayer, that if our faith is strong and does not waver as the water, our prayers will be answered. Let God become our "breakwall" and let our faith hold on to him. Let our faith know that God never moves or changes. The verses imply that if we control our minds to believe without wavering then we will receive from the Lord.

Each day we are asked to pray for those who send in requests for prayer. Do you pray for these people with the faith that it will happen? Do you pray for yourself, your family, your church and others with the faith that clings to the rock of Jesus? Let us believe and the Lord will make it so.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, let us cling to you knowing that you are the breakwall of our storms. Give us the power to control our minds and not let doubt enter in. Keep us stable and faithful, always grateful to you for our answered prayers. Amen.
