Dirt Under Our Nails

Saturday, May 15, 1999

1 John 1:7 – But if we walk in the light, as he is the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

The first car I ever owned was a 1953 Plymouth. I bought it for $50.00, so you can imagine that it needed work. It was my plan to restore it, so to accomplish this goal I started to strip the car down. Now when you work on a car, one thing you can count on is getting your hands dirty. There is always grease and grime somewhere on a vehicle. But this dirt on my hands was not your average dirt, because what I used to clean my hands would not get this dirt out from under my nails. The only way to get that dirt out was to stop working on the car.

As we live our lives we get dirty. This dirt is in the form of sin. No matter how much we try to wash ourselves we cannot get rid of this dirt from our lives. We can scrub all we want to, but the sin will still be with us. There is only one way to get rid of the sin in our lives. We are given the most powerful soap known to man: Jesus Christ. Through Christ's sacrifice we are made clean again. The blood of Christ washes the grime from under our nails in the blink of an eye. We will never again have the grime of sin in our lives, and because of this cleansing we are able to be in the presence of God.

Prayer: Lord, Thank you for washing us with the precious blood of Christ so that the dirt under our nails and all through our life is washed away. May the washing you have given us be extended to all those who need it. Amen.
