Oh Taste And See

Psalm 34:8 – Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

After a sail on the Sea of Galilee we docked. We disembarked and went into a unique restaurant for lunch. The main course was the whole fish, head, tail, eye, the whole works, all in one or nothing. This seemed unpleasant to me, and I thought about what I should do. I worked feverishly at peeling back the skin and filleting the baked fish with my fork. I quickly removed the unsightly remains of the fish to another plate, out of my sight. But when I tasted the fish it was pleasingly good.

Sometimes we must look beyond what we see with the eye and be aware of what should be sought out with the spirit. For our physical eyes only see through a glass darkly. It is our spiritual eyes that point the way to a clearer view in our lives. It is in Christ that we have a true and full view. For it is in the whole body of Christ that we see and are seen by many.

What has this to do with my whole fish? I had to delve into that fish and taste to see how good it was. So it is with Christ . We must enter into his presence with our whole self to enjoy all of His benefits.

Prayer: Oh Lord, help me to taste and see how gracious You are. Let me lean not on my own understanding but always trust in You. Amen.
