Psalm 86:8 – There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours.
Psalm 87:1 His foundation is in the holy mountains. (NRSV)
The other day my wife and I had our first chance to see some of the Rocky Mountains. As transplanted "Easterners" we have never seen this area of the country before. Every time we turned a corner the scenery changed and there was a gasp from our mouths and a "Wow!" on our lips. I couldn't help but marvel at God's great creation.
Some of the majestic mountains had trees to the top, some had glaciers, and some, just bald rock. I sat at one of the lookouts and couldn't help but weep at the grace of a God who would make such a marvellous thing as a mountain just for me to enjoy.
Later in a park we sat on a bench and watched the elk wandering around the campsite, again seeing the awe of God's creatures mixed with his creation. We sat for a long time in silence and then the God rewarded us with the best of all, a beautiful sunset as the sun went down behind the mountain, and all of God's creation fell silent in praise.
Prayer: God you are an awesome God. You have given us so many blessings. Thank you for sharing your creation with us. Help us to see your hand in all your works and help us to be worthy stewards of your creation. Amen.
