Psalm 6:8 – I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep; for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.
Several years ago, my then-new little car had occasion to be towed. However, the over-zealous, under-experienced tow-truck driver hadn't fastened it on correctly so that when he braked at a stoplight, my car dropped to the ground doing considerable damage.
The car was repaired, bodywork back to normal, and I continued on my way for several months until it was noted that my two rear tires had the appearance of someone having made many "peel-outs" in a drag race. Although that might be a thrilling experience, it hadn't happened, nor was it likely either the car or I were capable of that type of performance.
It was discovered that in the repairing, no one had either balanced the tires or done an alignment, necessitating an alignment and two new tires. Once that was done, the car ran smoothly. It was safe to drive.
We often experience bumps in our lives were we are "dropped to the ground". After a time, we may look as if we are fine, our "bodywork" looks great, but if we haven't maintained our "alignment" with God, our lives are not completely "balanced". If we care for our spiritual life; the wheel which keeps us going, we, too, will "run smoothly".
Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, may we take the time each day, to maintain our "alignment" with you. May we be ever aware that you are what brings the "balance" into our lives. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
