Listen To Yourself

Tuesday, July 7, 1998

Isaiah 59:1-2 – Behold, the Lord's hand is not so short that it cannot save; neither is His ear so dull that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear you.
Psalm 145:14 – The Lord sustains all who fall, and raises up all who are bowed down.

Have you ever listened to yourself? No, I mean really listened to what it is that you say to yourself. When times are tough, do you sing a song of praise or one of defeat? When loneliness comes to visit, do you pull up a chair or shut the door? When your bank account is low but the bills are high, do you count your cash instead of your blessings? How silly we are who are the most blessed! We have a personal relationship with the Lord of Hosts and we choose to wallow in defeat, to worry ourselves into submission, to cry out our sorrows to a world that doesn't care, when we have the most glorious of loves ever, waiting with open arms.

Do you not know who your Father is? Can you not see your Shepherd standing patiently beside you? Do the angels at your right and left not show up in your peripheral vision? You are a child of the most high, the one who parted a sea to save His people and closed it on their enemies. He is the same who made a shepherd a king, closed the mouths of lions, gave children to a dry womb, rained bread from the heavens, sacrificed His only son, and blesses you each day with the gift of life and an abundant one at that.

He is able to provide all that you need in ways you never thought possible. He can stop your fall, heal a family member, bless your discouraged friend, mend your broken heart, and do the same or whatever is needed, for each of His children, all at the same time!

Prayer: Father God, thank you that you never fall short, though my faith does. You never think "just enough" is okay; though my expectations are small. You never leave me; though I turn away in shame. You never stop believing in me; though I stop listening to you. Help me to realize who I am, a lamb in your arms. You will make a way out of no way, a river in the desert, a dry path in the sea, an end to death, and a new birth for one who has already been born. Praise You! Amen.
