Luke 8:43 – And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, and she had spent all she had on doctors but no one could heal her.

Medicine and faith are not in competition nor are they at odds with each other. Both are needed and both have their place in your life and mind. The Lord has ordained certain laws and they are fulfilled in many ways. There are some things which no one can do, but there are areas which must be accomplished by individuals.

I believe the relationship between the Lord's part and the effort of people is beautifully illustrated by this story.

A man moved into the neighbourhood and began to refurbish an old home and to clean up the yard. A couple years after he had moved in, the house was in good shape and the lawn and his flower garden beautiful. One of his friends remarked, "Isn't it amazing what the Lord can do?" as he surveyed the beauty of his flowers and lawn.

The owner replied, "Perhaps so, but you should have seen this place when the Lord had it by Himself." Only God can bring and maintain growth, but there are things you and I can do to cooperate with His laws. He has chosen to reveal Himself and to reveal His power through our efforts.

This does not take away from the power and glory of the Lord, but only enhances it in our midst. Thus, the proper use of medicine is not a denial of the power of the Lord but the sensible use of the revealed truths of the Lord.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, grant me the strength to do my part to maintain my wholeness. Amen.
