Going Home

John 4:14 – But whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

My father had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for some time and his condition was worsening. One night I visited him at the hospital and helped to feed him. I knew that his time left was short. That night when I went to bed I asked in prayer for the Lord to make a place for his faithful servant. At three o'clock in the morning, my brother phoned to tell me that our dad had passed away. I knew that he was going home to be with his Lord and I was comforted by the thought that his suffering here was over. It was clear to me that my father would not thirst because he had drunk the water Jesus had given him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, let those who are dealing with terminally ill family and friends know that their loved ones are not merely coming to the end of their journey on earth but that their suffering will soon be over and they will home with their Lord. Amen.
