Galatians 2:20 – I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me.
Hebrews 7:24-25 – Jesus lives on forever and so he is able to save those who come to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession with God for them.
It happened between three and four o'clock in the morning. I was restless and couldn't get to sleep. A bit of difficulty breathing was making me uneasy. I had time to think and wonder. For five months I had been hoping and praying for a healing miracle, for some relief from almost constant discomfort. My name was on several church prayer chains and many, many people assured me that they were praying for me. What was wrong? Why did so little seem to be happening. Then two short and direct sentences entered my mind. "Jesus loves you". and "Jesus is praying for you." Again and again they kept coming. "Jesus loves you. Jesus is praying for you."
It was the second sentence especially that got through to me. "Jesus is praying for you." It is wonderful to have believing friends pray, but if Jesus himself is praying for you a whole new picture emerges. I began to count the blessings from July to November. I was walking on my own. No walker or cane was needed. Medication was reduced. My appetite was returning. I was getting out a little bit. I was back to church on most Sundays and occasionally I was even driving the car. Prayers were being answered far more than I had realized. The healing may not have been sudden but it was very effective.
Best of all was the amazing way in which "Jesus loves you and Jesus is praying for you" made Jesus seem very near and very real. Try these words for yourself and see what happens.
Prayer: Eternal God, how awesome it is to realize that you are very real and also very near, an ever present help in trouble. Help us to be patient when we pray and nothing seems to happen. May it be that your gracious Spirit will provide us with words of truth to rescue us from despair, and fill us with the assurance that you are in charge and that all will be well. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
