Luke 18:17 – Remember this! Whoever does not receive the Kingdom like a child will never enter it.
Even this pair of laid-back retirees needs the Lord's providence. How he does sustain us through the Holy Spirit in the community of the church! And so each Sunday, as my wife Millie and I attend church, our ancient organ speaks; the choir takes voice and we join in the hymns; there is a learned sermon, and Christian fellowship. In all, we are aware of the Holy Spirit functioning in our lives as we quietly wait upon the Lord. It is such a simple, natural process. God has provided for this in his creation so it does not require high profile persuasion, or sensational preaching, only a simple receptive attitude. The process is so uncomplicated it seems profound. The Lord gives great importance to the biblical statement that we must receive the Kingdom of God as a little child, as it is repeated in three of the gospels. Our one year-old granddaughter gives a perfect illustration of the correct stance her grandparents must have in our church service. When our ancient organ speaks, and the choir takes voice, she will clap her hands and "sing" along. Of such is the Kingdom of Heaven. And so, with that approach, we can grow and be sustained when we attend our regular church service.
Prayer: Come Holy Spirit. Enter our lives; be present within us, and grant us the ability to be one with our Lord. Amen.
