Restorative Justice Week

Matthew 25:31-34 – When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. Then the king will say to those at his right hand, "Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you."

Ever hear of the Gene MacLellan Centre? No? I doubt you have because it's not open yet, but it will be soon. Back in 1979 Gene began a prison ministry in Ontario, using his wonderful God-given gifts to share God's good news with inmates. He never lost this love.

In New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Daybreak Prison Ministries, under the direction of Royce Harris, will soon be opening this centre for ex-convicts and the families of inmates. Food, clothing, counselling, church services, family counselling, social skills and community outreach will all be part of this exciting ministry.

Gene once wrote "Put your hand in the hand of the Man" and this ministry invites those who have been in conflict with the law to reach out to a hand that is waiting to hold them.

Thanks be to God.

Prayer: Give us new awareness of the needs of people in prison and the life of their families and friends. Help us fulfil the call and command of the Christ to visit those in prison and to thereby make them part of our life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
