Creating Thanksgiving

Saturday, October 11, 1997

2 Corinthians 8:7 – Now as you excel in everything – in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in utmost eagerness, and in our love for you – so we want you to excel also in this generous undertaking.

The Bible teaches that we can create thanksgiving in others simply by our acts of love and giving. It is never too early to teach this simple lesson of love. Take the St. Andrew's Sunday School as an example.

Every week we come with our pennies and loonies and offer our gifts to God. These gifts help us at special times but most of our gifts go to help others. Take this past year for example. We sent part of our Sunday School money to Africa. This first part went to help provide a church for a community that had never had a place to worship. The second part went to A Friend in Need to help with the immense debt that the congregation of St. Paul's, Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada, face after their building project.

We don't give much but every penny creates thanksgiving in those who receive. I wonder if you can create any thanksgiving this season?

Prayer: For every opportunity to be generous with what we have, we give you thanks and praise. Help us to continue to give and further the cause of Christ so that every day will be Thanksgiving. Amen.
