Luke 3:10-11 – And the crowds asked [John the Baptist], "What then should we do?" In reply he said to them, "Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none; and whoever has food must do likewise."
As Ghandi stepped aboard a train one day, one of his shoes slipped off and landed on the track. He was unable to retrieve it as the train was moving. To the amazement of his companions, Ghandi calmly took off his other shoe and threw it back along the track to land close to the first. Asked by a fellow passenger why he did so, Ghandi smiled. "The poor man who finds the shoe lying on the track," he replied, "will now have a pair he can use."
If the church is meant to empower people to ministry in the name of Jesus, I think we can learn a lesson from Ghandi about letting go and offering the very gifts people need to fulfill their ministries.
Prayer: God, giver of every good and perfect gift, enable us to be agents of your love, using all that we have and all that we are in your service and helping others to reach their potential in your grace. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
