1 John 4:9 – God's love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only son into the world so that we might live through him.
Lucy and Linus are home alone and Lucy is looking out the widow, musing that life is a drag. "I'm completely fed up. I've never felt so low in my life". Linus suggests that when you're in a mood like this you should try to think of things you have to be thankful for… in other words, count your blessings. Her cynical response is "Ha, that's a good one. I could count my blessings on one finger. I've never had anything and I never will have anything. Nothing ever goes right for me." And she turns on Linus and yells: "And you talk about counting blessings! You talk about being thankful? What do I have to be thankful for? In a small quiet voice Linus replies, "Well, for one thing, you have a little brother who loves you." She breaks down in tears and hugs him, and, with a sheepish smile Linus says, "Every now and then I say the right thing."
Isn't it great when we say the right thing!? It doesn't happen all that often to some of us, but when it does…wow!
Prayer: Gracious God, amaze us today with the power of love in the lives of those around us. Show us the way of Christ which touches and transforms even the most dismal day into an experience of love, in His name. Amen.
