Luke 11:5,8 – And he said to them, "Suppose one of you has a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, for a friend of mine has arrived, and I have nothing to set before him.' I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, at least because of his persistence he will get up and give him whatever he needs.
Our family once spent a night watching Lorenzo's Oil, about a boy with a disease of the nervous system. The parents of the boy refused the advice of every doctor, they refused to give in, they persisted in seeking out the best for their son, and they finally succeeded.
This is a parable of prayer. Prayer is the healing balm in our lives when we feel fragmented, frayed and about to fall apart. And when told that all our efforts make no difference, we persevere in prayer and continue to petition the only One who has the power to make us whole.
Prayer: Give us persistence in prayer. God, there are situations and circumstances that seem beyond even your ability to transform. Give us the power of prayer to offer petitions in the most desperate of circumstances, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sunday, October 13, 2024 – In Guelph, Ontario — Join Kortright Presbyterian Church, Guelph, Ontario, in praising God for an abundant harvest of over 6,000 pounds of vegetables, including 3400 pounds of potatoes picked by 30 people on Labour Day. The harvest is for neighbourhood friends, our local food cupboard, and mostly downtown Guelph missions.
