Acts 1:8 – But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me."
Once, some men were pushing a car along the street. You couldn't see anything wrong with the car – it was all polished and shining. But the engine wouldn't work — it was out of gas. It lacked power. In our Christian lives, we may be all polished and shining; we may attend church services, and even be able to use all the right words to describe what we believe. But we could still have no power. Are we really going anywhere, spiritually? Are we really accomplishing anything for God? Spiritual power comes from the indwelling Holy Spirit. We need this power in order to function as Christians, and do the jobs God wants us to do. The Holy Spirit is available to those who ask. He gives victory over temptation and evil. He sharpens our conscience, so we can discern God's will clearly. He fills us with joy, love and peace. Jesus said, "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" (Luke 11:13)
Prayer: Lord God, by Your Spirit, minister to our deepest needs as we wait in silence before You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
