What was asked of you and what did you commit yourself to when you said 'yes' to confirmation or membership in your church? Can you even remember the service or what was said? Let me refresh you memory by going back a few years and using the Book of Common Order replaced in 1991. This should include most of those who are Presbyterian.
The first thing you did was hear what had already taken place from the time of your baptism to the present and these are the words that would have been used back then:
"… prayer was offered on your behalf; and promises were given that you would be trained and taught in the things pertaining to Christ and His Church. God, by grace has thus directed and sustained you through the years. You come now to publicly to acknowledge His saving work; to profess your faith in the Lord Jesus; to consecrate yourself anew to His service; and to accept the full obligations of membership in His body which is the Church."
Sounds serious.
Do you even remember the weight of those words: "the full obligations of membership"?
We have entered into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. How are we doing?
Prayer: God, we thank you for the church and for our part in its life and mission. Help us to remember the important place we have in your plan through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
