Jesus, The Best Way

Saturday, February 1, 1997

John 14:1,6-7 – "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me." Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him." (NIV)

Drugs won't do it forever. Booze leaves a hangover. When the high wears off, the after-effects are a real bummer. Gambling is exciting. It's such a thrill when you win. But how often do you win? And when you lose, how do you feel? After an expensive makeover you feel so great, you're all decked out and strutting your stuff — until the person next to you splashes a full cup of steaming tea all over your new duds. New dresses ruin. Mascara runs. So do nylons. New shoe heels wear down and break. So do appliances. New cars have a tendency to crash on icy roads. Even snowmobiles aren't exempt. Shopping only does it for a little while. Not to mention how we feel when the bills come the next month. All these lead to the bottom of the recycle bin.

If you are one of the ones who are trying to do it their own way, why don't you try doing it Jesus' way? Or if you are one of those who are following the crowd, why not assert yourself and try life with Jesus. It truly is a better way. Not to mention, it really works. But it's not magic. God doesn't wave a wand and take all your troubles away, but Jesus does recycle them into something good. God doesn't give you a ten-second makeover when you accept Christ, but God does transform your low self-esteem to match the way Jesus sees you — someone lovable. Jesus' way of looking at things is the best way, after all.

Prayer: Jesus, I've tried so many other ways. I'd like to try it your way, now. Please make yourself real to me. Take me and remake me so that my life will be free and happy. Amen.
