Specializing In God

Saturday, January 18, 1997

Isaiah 61:1 – The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour.

Don Posterski said in a lecture series I attended that in our churches we need to specialize in God. This is what he has to say: "We go to grocery stores for food, to banks in order to deal with our finances, to dentists to care for our teeth and to lumber yards to purchase building materials. People go to church to have their spiritual needs met and get direction for living in the maze of the modern world. The church exists to reveal the ways of the Creator, to transmit energy for life from the Redeemer and to nurture the human spirit with the presence of the Divine Spirit. Vital churches will get people in touch with a vital God who will accompany them in the journey of life.

Prayer: God ,help us as we seek to be both faithful and effective in your service to the glory of Christ our Lord. Amen.
