Luke 1:46-53 – And Mary said: "My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me — holy is his name. His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. " (NIV)
- Who is this Child, we sing?
He who was born this night,
manger for bed, born to abject poverty,
while we, the well fed,
flex ballistic missile might,
but laud Him as newborn King.
His praises loudly sing, while the cry of the poor,
the needy, the dying, we blithely ignore.
Do we even feel the irony as we sing, laud and magnify
Jesus as King, one born poor beyond belief,
born to sorrow, acquainted with grief,
and we, who live like kings each day,
live as if that child had never been
nor bore for us, even the faintest significance?
Do we see that He was meant to be
the reason of our existence?
Prayer: Mighty God, May the significance of Jesus dawn upon us breaking forth into glistening, glorious joy expressed in authentic action. Amen.
