Hebrews 6:19 – We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
You've seen "Field of Dreams". It is a fanciful, all-American re-enactment of the great American pastime of baseball set in a corn field. The plot has a voice calling out to the star, "If you build it, he will come", and the rest of the movie is a tension between what is seen and unseen, what is real and imaginary, what is reality and what is a dream.
"If you build it, he will come" is a powerful statement of what Advent means, what a life of expectation is meant to be, what it means to hope when no hope is possible.
Prayer: God of all hope and expectation, we today you, you in whom we have placed our hope, for we believe you to be with us, to save us, though we often find ourselves in the midst of dark and dangerous days. Fill us with faith, hope and love this day and every day, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
