Acts 2:46 – They ate their food with glad and generous hearts.
A wonderful parishioner of mine was telling the tales of the dirty thirties… again – tales I know by heart but love to hear again for what they express of life in another age.
And these tales always have a punch-line… "we didn't have much but we were glad to share with anyone in need," especially, according to the stories, the meager meal before them ("just a bit more water in the soup dear, and well be ready to serve.") And in those days the scriptures were fulfilled: "(They) ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God…"
It is not so much what we have of the good things of life but the attitude we bring to life that will see us through, especially when times are tough.
Prayer: Generous Provider of all good gifts: In adversity and in plenty, we pray for your presence to transform our hearts of stone into glad and generous hearts ever ready to share and meet the needs of others, to the glory of the name of Jesus. Amen.
