Liberation From Fear!

A devotional revisited on October 17, 2024

Isaiah 43:2-3 – When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.

Have you ever been close to death, or thought you were?

A car accident in Canada left me immobilized and away from home. The doctor said, "You may die in the next two days!" I was faced with impending death, suffering and my unfinished business with others, not to mention the realization of the unimportance of prestige, political power and material goods. What an impact!

Here in El Salvador, many people fear death or violence: a post-war delinquency phenomenon, they say. I came to El Salvador partly as a result of my near-death experience and the motivation and strength God gave me. Once I learned to completely trust in God to protect and lead me, I was able to discern and do His will.

Letting Him have control over my life and death, brought me liberation and peace.

Luke 6:20-23 – Then Jesus lifted up His eyes toward His disciples and said: "Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of Man's sake. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, for in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to stop voluntarily, and to become personally aware of Your gifts of forgiveness and salvation. Teach us how to trust in You for our eternal life and to respond today as Jesus would, in response to all opportunities. Amen!
