High Wind – Higher Faith

2 Corinthians 1:5 – For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. (NIV)

A 100-kilometre-per-hour wind seemed like a lot more on my seventh-floor balcony when I struggled to get out to remedy a situation that had the two chairs on the balcony in the gusting wind.

One was securely tied into the rails and did not budge in the wind's fury. The other one, on the other hand, was tied poorly, and it was loudly banging on the rails, tossed about like a feather in the gusting wind.

I had tied it poorly — okay for lesser or no winds — but had not anchored the chair to face the fury of the elements.

I can see how I might be like that chair, only half-secured in the things of God, tossed about in life's winds, unsecured and unanchored against the wiles of life, with the scars to show my failings.

I learned that I need to be tied in faith more deeply into the Word of God, putting a stronger rope around me to hold me to Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour.

Christians from the beginning have faced opposing winds, yet they march onwards against foes within and without. Winds come from many directions, but if we are secured in Christ, we will be anchored to a victorious Rock that stands secure and unmoved.

Elements of darkness have no power over one in Christ. In the name of Jesus is our hope here on earth, come what may. In the holy God is our refuge from strife!

With the words of the familiar song, we sing:

    I have decided to follow Jesus;
    I have decided to follow Jesus;
    I have decided to follow Jesus;
    No turning back, no turning back.

    The world behind me, the cross before me;
    No turning back, no turning back.

    Though none go with me, I still will follow;
    No turning back, no turning back.

    Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
    No turning back, no turning back.

Thanks be to the holy God in Jesus for giving us a moment of decision in the winds of life, letting us see His Way in all things, praising, rejoicing in His way, tied to Him in faith for now and forever — no turning back!

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for speaking to us in the midst of trying strife that seeks to destroy. Grant us to rise clearly above the storms of life to see You as our gentle Master and anchor and the rock of salvation. In Your name, we thankfully pray. Amen and Amen! So be it!
