The Christ-Bearer

John 12:13b-15 – "Hosanna!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Blessed is the King of Israel!" Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written, "Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey's colt." (NIV)

As Jesus rode into Jerusalem, He did so, riding upon a donkey — a young colt. The little donkey took him through the throngs of people crowding the city.

Many were thrilled to see Him and acknowledge Him for who He was. Others, however, were incensed upon His entry, and in their hearts, they plotted His demise.

Through it all, the young colt plodded along peacefully and obediently, bearing Christ to the people. What the people thought, was not his responsibility. His responsibility was simply to be a Christ-bearer.

Likewise within our lives as Christians, we are called to be Christ-bearers. We are not responsible for what others think or do, but we are responsible for ourselves and the task we have been called to. We are the "body" of Christ to the nations. Our lives represent the living Lord within this world. As we plod along throughout our daily chores, jobs, leisure activities, and relationships, people are watching us, just as they watched Jesus riding upon a quiet, gentle, obedient donkey so long ago. The little donkey in no way detracted from the holiness of the One he bore.

I wonder what the crowds will see as they watch each one of us who are Christ-bearers this day. Will they see the holiness of our Lord within, or a badly behaved donkey?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus and His holiness. Bless each of us this day with a heart to follow and obey You. May those we meet amidst the crowds of life this day see You in us and be blessed. In Christ's name, we pray. Amen.
