Ephesians 5:13 – But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. (NKJV)
We have a glass door that separates the kitchen from the living room. As the years have passed, I have noticed that it is easier to keep clean, for as the boys have grown older, there seem to be fewer and fewer fingerprints. As we sat down to dinner this past Sunday, though, I was very surprised. With the sun now in a different place in the sky during the winter months, it comes in the front window on a different angle. The way that the kitchen door was ajar, the sun was also catching it from a different angle. As I looked up from my dinner, my eyes gazed upon fingerprint after fingerprint — but what was even more telling was the smudged glass that was before me. It was no longer clear in the reflection of the sun; it had a foggy cast to it. As I looked at a part of the door that was not in the sun, it was clear, and one could see through it easily. It seemed that the part of the door that was in the light showed the flaws and smudges of our hands. The part that was not in the sun but rather more in the dark seemed okay to my eyes.
Our lives can also be like that. We all contain smudges and fingerprints of the world. When brought into the light, we can see them and take care of the marks by taking them to Jesus. We also have the choice of ignoring what is brought into the light and continuing in our own ways. I am sure that the part of the door that was in the shadows had just as much grime and just as many fingerprints on it, and had I opened the door a bit more and exposed it to the sunlight, I would have seen so.
1 John 1:7 – But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. (NKJV)
Prayer: Dear Jesus, we praise and thank You that You are the light of the world, and that in You there is no darkness. Help us through Your Holy Spirit to come alongside one another in a loving and caring manner, seeking to expose everything to Your light. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
