Clearing The Clutter

Listen to this devotional:

Matthew 11:28 – Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (NKJV)

There is something about the coolness of fall — the rain, or in this case, wet snow — that causes me to feel the need to tidy up some drawers that over the summer have accumulated more than they should have in them. I am sure you know what I mean: "clutter". As I began this arduous task, I came across things that didn't belong in the drawer, things I no longer needed, things that needed tossing out, things that were in the wrong drawer, things that needed mending — the list goes on and on. Finally, I could see the bottom of the drawer and before me the piles of items that needed to be put in another place. Some items were easy to take care of, as to where I was going to put them; others required a bit more thought.

Jesus wants us to leave our clutter with Him daily. He wants us to lay it down and let Him carry our burdens. He wants us to toss some areas of our life out and give us freedom. He wants to heal the areas of our lives that need healing. He wants to help us sort out the things we don't understand.

Matthew 11:29 – Walk with me and work with me — watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. (MSG)

Prayer: Dear Lord, we are thankful for each new day we are given. Thank You that You can and will bear our burdens for us. Help us to let go of the clutter in our lives so that we may live in and walk in Your glory. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
