Delight

Listen to this devotional:

Psalm 1:2 – But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. (NASB)

Psalm 119:16 – I shall delight in Your statutes; I shall not forget Thy word. (NASB)

Easter is a special time of year. When I was a child, our family would drive to the city on Good Friday and on Easter Sunday to attend church. For Easter we would have new Easter dresses and hats. Going to the city alone was exciting. Being in a big church was exciting. Wearing the new dress that Mom had made me was exciting. It was a very memorable time of year.

Often when I went to bed at night, excited to be going to the city the next day, the new dress that Mom was making for me wasn't yet done. I would go to sleep with dreams of what it would be like in the morning and what I would look like in it. When I jumped out of bed in the morning, I would look till I found my dress all finished and nicely pressed, ready for me to put on. I delighted in my new dress.

Always on Easter Sunday, we would sing "Christ Arose" by Robert Lowry. I loved the lyrics:

    Up from the grave He arose,
    With a mighty triumph o'er His foes;
    He arose a victor from the dark domain,
    And He lives forever with His saints to reign;
    He arose! He arose!
    Hallelujah! Christ arose!

I delighted in the risen Saviour!

Let's remember to delight in Jesus Christ, the risen Son of God, every day — not just at Easter time.

Prayer: Father God, our hearts are filled with awe as we think of Jesus dying for us, going to hell for us, rising again for us. May we ever delight in Your finished work on the cross — for us. Thank You. Amen.
