Being A Light Unto The World

Luke 2:11 – For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. (KJV)

I recently had a conversation with a wonderful Jewish lady, and we shared with each other about our holiday traditions. She was celebrating Rosh Hashanah in October, and she told me about the fellowship and meals, and the prayers and blessings that they do when they spend time together. From this conversation, I got such a feeling of rest and the calmness that she was experiencing in her time of holiday. It was being celebrated without all the commercialism that frequently comes with holiday time.

1 John 1:7 – But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. (NKJV)

The "holiday season" can become a time of hustle and bustle that stretches from Thanksgiving to Christmas. It is so easy to get caught up in the commercialism so evident among the crowds in the stores, that we can lose sight of Jesus as the reason for our season.

Let us celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour in such a way that we will each be a light to many people who do not know the love of Jesus.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, help us to keep our eyes focused on You. We want to be a light to the world that brings people into Your kingdom. Help us to share the good news with people whom we meet during the holiday time. Amen.
