You Are Loved

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (KJV)

Don't you just love babies? They are soft and cuddly and totally dependent upon their parents for every need. They look at their mothers with total adoration — and that look is returned by their mothers. As a new mother I was amazed at the intensity with which I loved my children. There were times that love was so intense that it left me almost breathless. That love, of course, is still as intense as ever.

I think that, as Christians, we sometimes forget or take for granted or simply don't understand the love our heavenly Father has for us. I think we don't realize the intensity with which our heavenly Father loves us. Think of our precious children. Is there any person upon the face of this earth that we would willingly give our precious child to die for? As much as one loves a spouse, a brother or sister, another child, parents, or a friend, could we give our child to die so that another person might live? God loves us so much that He gave us Jesus that we might live. God gave Jesus to humankind, good and evil, so that we might have eternal life. He loves us that much!

God loves you and me. He knows each one of our names. He knows where we live. He knows our heartaches and needs even before we do. He loves us with such intensity that it should take our breath away. Things of the world are temporary and fleeting. God's love remains constant and true and unconditional.

Knowing, then, that we are loved so much, let's share God's love with others.

Prayer: Loving God, help us to turn our concerns and cares over to You because You love us. Help us to remember that even when the world does not seem to care, You do. Help us to try to love others with the same unconditional love that we are given by You. Help us to share Your love as we Christians are commissioned to do. Amen.
