John 3:16 – For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life. (AMP)

I am really annoyed with myself. This afternoon I have to throw out fifteen dollars. (Even in Canadian currency, this is a substantial amount!) Oh, that was not my original intention. At first, I planned to save money. I carefully clipped and saved some special coupons for various useful grocery products.

The not-saving part came when I stuck them in my wallet and forgot about them. Today, while cleaning out my purse, I came across my "bargains" — with their expiry dates past. What a waste!

God has given us a coupon for eternal life and forgiveness in Jesus. All we have to do is take it and put it in our heart. God's Son, Jesus, died on the cross for our sin. He was raised from the dead, just because of God's love for us.

Unfortunately, not all of us use our coupon. Some will toss it, believing that their sins are so terrible that God won't be able to forgive. Others will choose to set aside God's free offer after hearing about it. They want to pay for a debt themselves that has already been paid in full. Still others choose to believe that God can't possibly love them enough to let them use the coupon. But the expiry date on our coupon is the date of our death. We don't get a second chance after that, and none of us knows when that day is.

What a blessing that so many have taken God at His Word and have used the coupon of Jesus' sacrifice to enter God's rest and to look forward to eternal life. How will each of us use God's coupon?

Prayer: Thanks, God, that Your coupon has not yet expired. Lord, we want to know You in the fullness of Your Son, Jesus Christ. We are tired of putting off the truth of Your love. We choose Jesus now. Help us to understand who He is. Make Him real in our hearts. Amen.
