As He Rose, So Shall We Rise

1 Thessalonians 4:16 – For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. (NIV)

Our friend, Glenn, always delights us with stories of when he was working as a crane operator in a foundry. He used to work in the high overhead crane up in the rafters in the foundry building, moving metal around. One of his jobs was to use a very large electromagnet to separate ferrous (iron-like) metal scrap from non-ferrous. He tells how he would bring that magnet out and above the pile of scrap, and then turn on the electromagnet — the very powerful electromagnet. The ferrous scrap pieces, because of the magnet's attraction, would literally jump off the floor several feet in the air to reach that electromagnet. For Glenn, it was a reminder to him of the coming of the Lord, as described in today's Scripture, when we will rise to meet Him. The text quoted above continues:

1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 – After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words. (NIV)

At this Easter season, we are reminded that if it were not for the fact that Jesus rose on Easter, this Second Coming would not be possible. Because He has risen, we have the assurance of rising too — the blessed assurance.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for reminders in daily life of Your revelation of Yourself and our future with You. Thank You that we have the assurance, because we believe in You, that, whether we're alive or dead at Your return, we shall rise to meet You. That is encouraging. Amen.
