Facing The Giant (1)

Matthew 19:26 – Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (NIV)

When I was six, my mother asked me to feed the chickens while she made supper. As soon as she asked me, my heart began to thump wildly. Although I was capable of feeding the chickens, I was afraid to do so. Fear kept me from wanting to deal with the aggressive rooster that ruled the chicken coop.

When I expressed my fear, my mother reminded me of how David prayed before he faced the giant. She then prayed for me to have the courage I needed to do the task she had asked of me. With the words of her prayer in my mind, I set about to face my giant and feed the chickens.

Sometimes God has called us to do a task that, in our mind, seems as formidable and impossible as facing a giant. When this happens — when it comes to slaying the giants in our lives — prayer makes the difference. Nothing is impossible with God.

Prayer: God, thank You that we are able to come to You with our fears. Remind us that nothing is impossible for You. Amen.
