Last fall, I was able to get out hunting once again, which I enjoyed a great deal, but I did have a close call while I was out there. My father-in-law and I were setting up camp. One thing we had to do was disconnect the all-terrain vehicle (ATV) trailer from the truck.
I lifted up on the tongue of the trailer as my father-in-law started to pull the truck away. One thing I did not notice was that I forgot to disconnect the safety chain between the truck and the trailer. As my father-in-law started to pull away, the chain was pulled tight. My hand was trapped between the chain and the tongue on the trailer. I felt the pressure on my hand as the chain was pulled tighter while the truck was pulled forward. My first thought was that the chain was going to cut about three of my fingers off. All I could do was let the tongue of the trailer go. The truck had pulled forward enough that the tongue cleared the bumper and fell to the ground. As it fell my hand was freed. It was a scary moment for me. After it had happened and I still had all my fingers, I got to thinking that it was only by letting go that I was able to be freed from the danger.
I also got to thinking about how we must confess our sins to God, and how we must let everything go and put it into his hands. God wants to forgive us. He gave his only Son to die so we could be pardoned. If I do not put all my trust in this, if I try to hang on to my own ability to make things right with God, I will fail. I must let go.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we confess all our sins to you because we know that you are faithful and just and will forgive us. It is in letting everything go and only believing in you that we can find peace in our lives. There is only thanks in our hearts for the grace you have shown us. In Jesus' name. Amen.
