Life Stitches

Philippians 1:6 – I am confident of this, that the One who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. (NRSV)

One stitch at a time. The point of the needle pierces through the material downward and upward. After many hours, days, weeks and sometimes years, a picture is created. My hobby is cross-stitching. I have been working on this particular piece of cross-stitch for almost two years now, and I just can't seem to finish it.

As I was looking at the piece of material the other day, I noticed that on the front part of the material, a beautiful picture was being revealed slowly, one stitch at a time. But as I turned the material around and looked at the back of that same piece of material, the stitches looked crooked and messy, threads going everywhere.

When we accept Jesus into our hearts, we also are being transformed and created into a beautiful picture, one day at a time. Our former nature, just like the back of the cross-stitch, was messy and our thoughts crooked; but God, who has started a good work within us, is not finished yet, until He comes to take us home. Then, the picture is complete!

Prayer: Lord, cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We are not worthy of Your love. We do what, in our hearts, we do not want to do. Father, mould us and shape us to do Your will. Make us more like Jesus every day. Amen.
